2008 U of M Flint DUK
Race Rescue Squad Anthony McGill from U of M Flint recently contacted me in regards to helping
out with a promotion that they were running on the river. They were planning on having a DUK Race between Harrison and Saginaw
Street, and wanted members of the Flint River Paddlers to act as a DUK Rescue Squad, scoring the race and making sure that
no DUKS made their way down river. Due to last minute confirmation of the event, I did not publicly announce it to the club,
but we did have three of our group there to perform these duties. The three brave souls who endured the cold weather and the
hail that hit while they were on the water were: Cyndi Gardner, Greg Gardner and Becky Hoover. I was planning on being on
the water as well, however my daughter ended up being home sick from school that day so I was out, and only able to provide
limited shore support during the event. Thank you to all three of you for being there to represent the Flint River Paddlers.

October 26th 2008 Flint River
Tire Attack
Even though we did cancel
the October 26th Tire Attack event officially, we still had four of us total that showed up, and with the unexpected
(yet welcome) change in the weather, we decided not to waste the opportunity. It was hard tiring work as most of the
15 tires were barely visible and mostly buried. We dug them up then had to get them up to the shore, and then up the steep
bank over 100 yards to the side of the road. We had to tread along and through the Flint River to get to them, and the
tiring work made us rubbery legged.
The four volunteers who participated were; Cyndi
Gardner Brad Hill, Terry Reechko and Eric Hall, thanks to all of you. Also thank you to everyone who was planning
to come before we cancelled the event. Your support does not go unrecognized, and had the weather not played tricks on us,
we know that you would have been there with us during the effort.
My plan is to contact the Flint Journal, and
Elizabeth Shaw specifically to see if we can get some good publicity for the event in the weekend Journal. Hopefully this
will be beneficial as a membership drive tool and also help with getting more volunteers for our future pick-up events.
